This website is run by me, Ed Muirhead. I love music and play the piano and other instruments.
At the age of seven I started piano lessons. My teacher Mrs Whitefield inspired me greatly, she helped me learn to enjoy making music. My mum and dad encouraged me the whole way, taking me to lessons and buying an old piano, which they brought home in a wheelbarrow!
Through my teens I continued to enjoy music, and spent a lot of time playing piano, then guitar: as time went on, making up tunes and songs too.
In those early years I passed a couple of practical examinations (ABRSM 3 and 5) plus Grade 5 Theory (distinction) and studied to Grade 7 level.
Over the years I've continued to play, with many releases and shows across the country, (website), as part of several bands, and also regularly at church.
In 2014, I began teaching piano lessons, to help me prepare for music therapy training - and I really enjoyed helping students learn more about music. By the end of that year I had 10 students, adding 10 more each year until working with over 40 people weekly.
After earning my music therapy degree, I added community music sessions, which also grew over the years. From a peak of 71 weekly lessons/sessions in late 2022, I've tapered back down again, enjoying more time for composing and recording.
There's been a waiting list for several years now, but any current spaces can be spotted on the learning page.

- 2010-2022 : Drums with rock and blues bands
- 2002-2003 : Pianist for Forfar Musical Society
- 1993-2015 : Keyboard with various rock bands
- 1992-now : Piano/Organ at various churches
My strengths are sight-reading, improvising and playing by ear. Give me any page of music, I'll play it for you - or play any tune in any key and I'll join in!!
I have an MSc in music therapy, and full PVG scheme membership.
